In December 1969, on the same day that police arrested some “nude hippies” – members of Charles Manson’s murderous “family” – in Death Valley, California, Mick Jagger held a meeting in London with the Rolling Stones’ business adviser, Prince Rupert Lowenstein. They were trying to find ways to keep the revenue from hits such as Street Fighting Man from the taxman.
