So it turns out that bringing your digital camera out onto the go-kart track once is perfectly reasonable, but twice will cause it to get smashed. Sort of a bummer—but I'd been fantasizing about replacing my old Nikon anyway, and its current total lack of functionality is as good a reason there is.

Balancing cost, features, and DPReview rating, it was pretty easy to make a decision. So here's the new camera, coming in the mail in a few days:

I paid a little extra money to get this camera over the A550 because I wanted the image stabilization feature. (I have shaky camera hands.)

Let's hope no one is stupid enough to put this one in a go-kart.
